India won a heart-stopping thriller by a single run to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series.
The first ODI between India and South Africa looked like a sequel of the Kolkata Test Match. Both teams were again involved in a thrilling encounter which went down to the wires.

India batting first set a target of 299 runs to win. On reply South Africa almost managed to sail home with a victory. With a good contribution from South African skipper Jacques Kallis scoring 89 and a quick-fire 65 run partnership between tail-enders Parnell and Steyn off just 32 balls but fell short by just one run. India were set to a convincing win after the loss of South African captain Kallis, but the last partnership took the game away from Indians until the last ball of the game where Dhoni took the bails off in a flash to take the game away from the visitors.
